AffinityPlus Credit Union Donates $1,500 to Fire Victim Through WE CARE Outreach

November 2023

AffinityPlus Credit Union (formerly BWU Credit Union) rendered financial assistance to Mr. Belfield Pinder who lost his home to fire on November 08, 2023. The $1,500 donation to the 67-year-old was made under the Credit Union's WE CARE Outreach Programme.

The WE CARE initiative provides financial aid to AffinityPlus Credit Union members in need, and offers support to local charitable and beneficial projects that fall under six categories: youth, sports, culture, heritage, the environment or the community.

The newspaper report on the Laynes Road, Brittons Hill fire was compelling. The two fire tenders that responded were unable to save the uninsured wooden house, which Mr. Pinder shared with his brother.

No one was at home when the early morning blaze occurred, so both brothers escaped potential injury. Mr. Pinder, also known as “Die Hard”, reportedly said he did not want to be pitied. However, AffinityPlus decided to lend a hand, as the road to rebuilding can be challenging.

Upon receiving the donation, Mr. Pinder expressed his gratitude for the support. With a list of materials in hand, he stated that he intended to go directly to a hardware store where he could purchase items to rebuild his home.

At AffinityPlus Credit Union, whenever possible, we seize opportunities to help members of the community rebound from difficult situations. We invite our credit union members to join us in this endeavour.
