Who Are Our Scholarships Named After?

  • Brother Casper Roett was a founding member of the AffinityPlus Credit Union, formerly known as the BWU Co-operative Credit Union Ltd. He served on the Supervisory Committee from 1985-1991 and was its Chairman during 1989. Bro. Roett sat on the Education Committee from inception in 1993-1994, witnessing the introduction of a $20,000 Education Fund; he passed away in 2000 and is honoured for his significant contributions to this Credit Union.

  • Sister Icilma Johnson, 1940 – 2018, was amongst a small group of Trade Unionists who saw a need for the establishment of a Credit Union, and thus, she became a founding member and a strong link in the Credit Union’s Movement. Sister Johnson became the first female President of AffinityPlus Credit Union, then known as the BWU Co-operative Credit Union Ltd, serving for the period 1987-1989 and is recognized for her contributions by the naming of this scholarship in her honour.

  • Brother Richards was a Trade Unionist by occupation and recognized the usefulness and need for a Credit Union – especially after seeing the benefits whilst living and working in Canada; his greatest delight has been the trust and belief of the membership in knowing that this would be an institution of great benefit to them. Bro. Richards is recognised for his significant contributions to this Credit Union by the naming of this scholarship in his honour.

  • Brother Winfield Belle, 1931-2008, served diligently on our Board and Committees, he participated actively in the refurbishment of the Credit Union's head office in Fairchild Street, Bridgetown and was instrumental in its overall development. The Winfield Belle Memorial Scholarship is named in his honour; in recognition of our dedicated and hardworking brother.
