This page has been developed to help answer the most frequently asked questions from our members about our SMARTPay digital payment services.

General FAQs

  • SMARTPay is AffinityPlus Credit Union's digital payments service.

    The enhanced version of SMARTPay is powered by BiMPay and gives members access to the new national payments network through the AffinityPlus Online Banking and Mobile App.

    SMARTPay allows AffinityPlus members to send and receive money quickly, securely, and conveniently and will also still include the current bill payment services.

    Members do not need a separate app to access SMARTPay, it is integrated into the Online Banking Platform.

  • ‍BiMPay is Barbados' new national instant payment system developed under the leadership of the Central Bank of Barbados.

    ‍ ‍‍The system is designed to:

    • Enable - faster digital payments

    • Allow - money to move between participating financial institutions in near real-time

    • Improve - convenience and accessibility for consumers and businesses

    • Support - the continued modernization of Barbados' payments ecosystem

    ‍BiMPay creates a national payments network that participating banks, credit unions, and other financial institutions can connect to.

  • ‍Members can access SMARTPay through:

    • ‍ AffinityPlus Online Banking

    • The Affinity Plus Mobile App available for download through the Apple Store and Google Play

    Members do not need a separate app to access SMARTPay, it is integrated into the AffinityPlus Online Banking Platform

  • Instant Transfers

    Members can send money quickly to individuals at participating financial institutions as well as receive it.

    To receive money from other persons currently members must use their existing member account.

    Convenient Digital Payments

    Transfers can be completed directly through online banking or the mobile app without visiting a branch.

    Secure Platform

    Transactions are processed through a secure banking environment.

    Enhanced Digital Banking Experience

    SMARTPay forms part of AffinityPlus' commitment to providing modern, convenient financial services.

  • AffinityPlus members will continue to have access to:

    • Individual person-to-person transfers

    • Individual account-to-account transfers through the BiMPay network

     AffinityPlus' participation in BiMPay will initially focus on standard individual transfers. Additional BiMPay services such as the wallet and use of payment QR codes will be introduced soon. Members will be updated when these additions are made.

  • Additional BiMPay functionality expected to become available in future phases, include:

    • Digital wallet services

    • QR code payments

    • Request-to-Pay services

    • Additional enhanced payment options

    Availability will depend on final regulatory approvals.

  • No. AffinityPlus members access SMARTPay powered by BiMPay through AffinityPlus Online Banking and the SMARTNet Mobile App.

  • No. SMARTPay is an enhanced payment feature within AffinityPlus Online Banking and the SMARTNet Mobile App.

  • Yes. SMARTPay operates within AffinityPlus' secure digital banking environment and is powered by the safe and secure BiMPay system.

  • Yes, provided the recipient's financial institution participates in the BiMPay network. Currently all the commercial banks and the three largest credit unions are part of BiMPay.

  • There is no fee to use SMARTPay.

  • The enhancement gives members access to Barbados' modern national payments infrastructure and provides a faster, more convenient way to make digital payments.

    BiMPay replaces the previous ACH platform, which was used to manage instant transfers.

Online Banking FAQs

  • Get Link Code is located at the top of the balance screen in Online Banking – This is to facilitate linking AffinityPlus accounts to the BiMPay wallet and cannot to be used until AffinityPlus has permission to offer BiMPay wallet services.

  • Yes. After the transition, all  external transfer accounts will have to be added.

  • On the left-side menu, click “Transfer" And then select “Add External Account."

  • Yes,  transfer alerts will be sent automatically to your email address on file.

  • Request to Pay is a feature that allows a person or business to send a digital request for payment directly to another person. The recipient can review the request and choose to approve and pay it instantly through their participating financial institution.

     

    This option is a feature in the AffinityPlus Online Banking Website and App but will not be in use until further notice.

     Request to Pay requests will appear in the User Activity Tab- Payment Request. Click on action to approve or decline. You have 30 days to respond to a request to pay.

  • The scheduled transfer feature is still part of AffinityPlus online banking and previously set up transfers should all still work.

Transaction Related FAQs

  • SMARTPay transactions are processed in real time and cannot be reversed once completed. Always verify the recipient's details before sending money and always send a small test amount if it is the first time you are sending money to that person or business.

     If a transaction was unauthorized, report it to AffinityPlus immediately, as it may be investigated and reversed. However, if you authorized the payment yourself, even because of a scam, recovering the funds may be difficult or impossible.

  • ‍ Transfers are limited to $5,000 per day. Should you need to transfer a larger amount please call us at 436-5600 or email smartpay@affinityplusbb.com for assistance.

  • Currently transactions are restricted to Barbados only.

BiMPay Wallet

  • AffinityPlus members cannot currently link their accounts to the BiMPay Wallet. We are working to introduce this service and will advise members when it is available.

  • At present, members can receive money from others using the BiMPay app. They will however have to follow these instructions - If the individual is using the BiMPay app/ wallet to send money to an AffinityPlus member, the system currently requires a minimum account number length of 6 digits, so if the member’s account is 4 digits that should put at least 2 zeros before or after the account number. If it is 5 digits than at least 1 zero.
