AffinityPlus Helping Neighbours in Need
On May 6, 2024, the tragic Wellington Street Fire, resulted in several families in the vicinity of AffinityPlus Credit Union’s headquarters, being displaced, leading to the Credit Union making donations totalling over $7000, to assist affected persons.
AffinityPlus launched a donation drive, which led to staff and members of the Credit Union generously contributing, food items, vouchers and clothing. AffinityPlus through its We Care Programme also donated $4000 worth of groceries and shopping vouchers. The Credit Union also partnered with leading distributor Western Wholesale, who made an additional donation of food items to the cause and provided complimentary transportation.
The donation was made to representatives of the St. Ambrose Anglican Church at their community centre on June 21, 2024, for distribution to the fire victims of Wellington Street.
In addition to the charitable drive, AffinityPlus also gave a further $1500 each to Robert Gill and Winston Blenman, two members of the Credit Union who tragically lost their homes in the fire. Valerie Hope, Marketing Manager of AffinityPlus Credit Union shared, “As a good corporate neighbour, we felt compelled to do our part to assist affected persons. To lose everything in a fire is a truly traumatic experience, which is difficult to recover from. We were heartened by the generosity of our members and staff and were pleased to have been able to provide some additional support to those impacted.”
Hope further stated, “Our We Care programme is a charitable initiative which is funded annually, from a percentage of the Credit Union’s net operating income. It is used to aid members in need, as well as worthy ventures in Barbados, which influence the positive development of our people and communities.”
Since its launch, the We Care programme has donated over $75,000 to members, schools and charitable projects, which fall under one of the following pillars: Youth, Community, Environment, Sports and Culture.
