The Barbados Police Service

The Barbados Police Service received valuable support from the We Care Programme for its Annual Children's Christmas Party, which is a key part of their ongoing community outreach initiatives. Half Moon Fort Primary School | AffinityPlus Beacons of the North Calypso Competition

AffinityPlus served as the title sponsor for the Beacons of the North Calypso Competition, an engaging and culturally enriching event hosted by Half Moon Fort Primary School. This dynamic competition provided a platform to connect young people with their cultural heritage through the vibrant art of calypso. UWI STAT Vice Chancellor's Ambassadors Corps Cave Hill

AffinityPlus supported two delegates, Teion Sealy (SYLC member) and Shakeem Howell (AffinityPlus member), to attend the Youth Summit: IYF+30 Conference hosted by QatarDebate from October 29-31, 2024. The event gathered over 400 youth leaders to address critical global issues, such as family dynamics, demographic shifts, climate change, migration, and technology. The summit provided an invaluable opportunity for AffinityPlus Credit Union to empower these young men, both members of the UWI Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow Vice Chancellor's Ambassadors Corps, to engage with and learn from the next generation of global changemakers.
Rotaract Club of Barbados West

AffinityPlus was pleased to support the Rotaract Club of Barbados West and the Interact Club of Alexandra School in their Youth Peace Programme initiative at The Alexandra School. This programme focuses on helping individuals explore ways to address violence while engaging all demographics. As part of our contribution, AffinityPlus donated a Peace Pole, a powerful symbol of hope, unity, and peace. The presence of a Peace Pole at a secondary school serves as a daily reminder to students and staff of the importance of cultivating a culture of non-violence, understanding, and harmony.
Let Me Read Project

We Care was delighted to support the Let Me Read Project, an inspiring initiative spearheaded by high school student Naomi Jordan. This project is dedicated to raising awareness about the unique challenges faced by the visually impaired community in Barbados. The key objectives of the project include:
Highlighting the barriers and challenges faced by visually impaired individuals in their daily lives.
Securing funding to purchase additional specialized hardware and software for the Irvin Wilson School, enhancing their learning environment.
Acquiring a range of educational and recreational books in braille, helping to broaden the reading materials available to visually impaired students.
Through our contribution, We Care funded the purchase of a state-of-the-art computer, aimed at supporting and enhancing the learning experience for students at the Irvin Wilson School, furthering their educational development.
St. Lucy's Primary School - PTA

We Care proudly donated $2,500 to the St. Lucy’s Primary School PTA to foster a nurturing and supportive environment for students. This generous contribution will support several key initiatives, including:

Cherry Tree Kids

Support was extended to Cherry Tree Kids for their Literacy Festival and Book Fair, held on August 10, 2024. The event celebrated local literature, with a special emphasis on showcasing books that highlight Barbadian culture and promote language and literacy development at the primary school level. The festival featured storytelling, cultural activities, and awards for children who excel in reading. Additionally, a portion of the event’s proceeds was dedicated to expanding the Cherry Tree Kids private library, with a focus on culturally relevant children's picture and chapter books. Cherry Tree Kids, is a micro business focused on early childhood language and literacy development.
Seasons for Growth - Grief and Loss Educational Programme

Seasons for Growth is a peer support program dedicated to helping individuals navigate the challenges of life changes, particularly those related to loss. Through guided sessions, participants are provided with a safe space to explore their feelings, share experiences, and develop coping strategies alongside others who have faced similar circumstances. A donation was made to support their grief and loss educational program, which serves both children and adults.
Kaden Johnson and Rijanni St. Hill

Kaden Johnson and Rijanni St. Hill, two talented youth swimmers and cousins, were chosen to represent Barbados' national swimming team at the Goodwill Swimming Championships held in St. Lucia in August 2024. Through our partnership, camps this year will receive a large art poster and colouring supplies to support creative art development. PGDFF Caribbean is a charity that seeks to elevate the socio-economic standards of youth regionally.

On May 6, 2024, the tragic Wellington Street Fire, resulted in several families in the vicinity of AffinityPlus Credit Union’s headquarters, being displaced, leading to the Credit Union making donations totalling over $7000, to assist affected persons.

Ms. Johnson, a junior member of the Credit Union, represented Barbados at the CCCAN Swimming Championships 2024. The event brought together competitors from across the Caribbean and Central America, including powerhouse nations such as Jamaica, Trinidad, Mexico, and Venezuela. Simya showcased her talent by finishing in the top 10 in both of her signature events, demonstrating her skill and dedication. In support of her achievements, financial assistance was provided to help cover some of the costs associated with her participation in the competition, making her journey possible.

Dear Uncle Marz Christmas Charity

In 2022 and 2023, Marzville's Christmas Charity Drive received support from the WE Care Programme for their outstanding work during the festive season. This charitable initiative aims to provide hampers to families in need. The charity drive has been successful in delivering much-needed aid during the holiday season. In 2023, the initiative was able to gift hampers to 60 households, providing them with essential items such as food, clothing, and toys for children. Their dedication to helping others is a testament to the power of kindness and generosity.

AffinityPlus Credit Union (formerly BWU Credit Union) rendered financial assistance to Mr. Belfield Pinder who lost his home to fire on November 08, 2023. The $1,500 donation to the 67-year-old was made under the Credit Union's WE CARE Outreach Programme.
National United Society of the Blind Barbados (NUSB)

The NUSB is a charitable organization that was founded to advocate for the rights of blind and visually impaired people in Barbados. The organization's youth arm was awarded a grant for their upcoming retreat for disabled youth. The retreat will focus on providing education, motivation, and empowerment to young people with disabilities, particularly those with visual impairments. By providing young people with disabilities with the necessary tools and resources, they hope to inspire them to achieve their full potential and become active members of society.
Community Health/Community Mental Health Nursing Students of BCC

The nursing students at Barbados Community College received support for their educational tour to Dominica in 2023. The tour's main objective was to provide students with an opportunity to observe the delivery of Primary Health Care in Dominica and learn about best practices that can be implemented in the Barbadian Healthcare System.
Cool School Campaign

As part of the We Care Programme, the Credit Union launched the Cool School Campaign on International Credit Union Day 2023.
This campaign aims to support schools in need by providing items like fans, water coolers, and even trees to offer shade or bear fruit, benefiting the entire school community. On ICU Day, three schools received fan donations: Queen’s College, Bayley’s Primary School, and St. Ambrose Primary School. Additionally, tree-planting ceremonies were held at the two primary schools, where they also received donations of fruit and shade trees.

Barbados Entrepreneurship Foundation BEF - $20 Challenge 2023

The $20 Challenge was awarded a WE Care grant to support its efforts in developing Barbados' entrepreneurial environment and nurturing a culture of enterprise. This national initiative provides a safe space for youth aged 12-19 to develop the skills and knowledge needed to become successful business owners. Under the guidance of experts, they learn how to take calculated risks and unleash their full potential.
Caribbean Youth Environment Network in Barbados (CYEN)

The Caribbean Youth Environment Network (CYEN) is a non-profit organization that aims to improve the quality of life of young people in the Caribbean. They do this by promoting personal development and engaging young people in all environmental and sustainable development matters. The Barbados chapter of CYEN received sponsorship for its annual nationwide volunteer beach cleanup event- Barbados International Coastal Cleanup. The event's goal is to prevent and address the damage being done to our local marine environment by trash and debris on the beaches.
Cancer Support Services

The WE CARE Programme donated $5,000 to Cancer Support Services (CSS) to assist in their efforts of helping cancer patients and their families. For over two decades, CSS has been providing a wide range of services at no cost to its clients and their families. These services include counseling, food vouchers, medical supplies, medications, oxygen tanks, and at-home hospice care.
Kingdom Purpose Ministries International (KPMI)- Educational Scholarship Programme

KPMI, a community church located in Speightstown, was granted support for its Scholarship Programme. The Programme's primary goal is to provide assistance to children by ensuring that they have access to the necessary items for school. These items could include school uniforms, textbooks, stationery, and other learning materials. By providing these much-needed resources to children, the programme helps to reduce the financial burden on families and encourages children to stay in school and pursue their dreams.
Luis Sebastian Weekes & Barbados Aquatic Sports Association (BASA)

Luis Sebastian Weekes, a National Swimmer who has his sights set on the Olympics, was awarded a WE Care Grant to assist him in pursuing his athletic ambitions on the global stage. This grant will enable him to avail the necessary resources and training required to compete at the highest level, and hopefully bring laurels to his country. Luis recently participated in the 2023 FINA World Championships, which is one of the most prestigious events in the world of swimming.
Verdun & Marina - Teen Intervene & Confident Me

Verdun House and Marina House provides rehabilitation treatment services for men and women on the island. Their facilities offer a secure, nurturing, and supportive environment to help patients heal and recover. The organization received support for its Teen Intervene & Confident Me Programme, which provides a therapeutic space for high school students to address emotional, physical, mental, and social challenges affecting their well-being. The program aims to help participants transition into healthy young adults so they can become productive and active citizens.

Ms. Williams received assistance to make her trip to the event possible, which took place in Garden Grove, California. This was an amazing opportunity for her to showcase her talent and put Barbados on the map in the entertainment industry.
Ellerton Primary School

The BWU Credit Union made a donation to the Ellerton Primary School towards the refurbishment of their shade house. This was a critical component of the school’s effort to build agricultural skills and knowledge amongst their students and promote local food security. In July 2021, Hurricane Elsa completely destroyed the rural St. George school’s shade house. This structure had served both the 4-H Club and the school at large. READ MORE
Salvation Army

As a precursor to the relaunch of its We Care initiative, AffinityPlus (formerly the BWU Cooperative Credit Union Limited, BWUCCUL) generously contributed $3,500 to the Salvation Army in support of their 2021 Christmas Appeal. This donation reflects AffinityPlus' ongoing commitment to community support and uplifting those in need, particularly during the holiday season when the demand for assistance is even greater. All requests for the WE CARE Programme grants must be made via the relevant WE CARE Application Form (Download below) and the required supporting documentation submitted with the application.
If a request meets specified guidelines and is in line with our strategic goals and objectives, it will be considered for funding. Incomplete applications that have the potential to be approved will be returned with details of the additional requirements and an invitation to re-apply.
